The Crofton Singers was founded in 1947 in response to the wish of pupils leaving Bancroft’s School (then for boys) and Loughton High School for Girls (now Roding Valley High School Performing Arts College) to continue their singing. Hence the name: BanCROFT plus LoughtON.
It has long since developed into a mixed age community choir open to all, though the historic connection with Bancroft’s means that we have the use of a comfortable music room there with grand piano for our weekly rehearsals. There is a high standard of musicianship but we do emphasise that though all members are sight readers there is a broad range of experience and ability. We have an established reputation in unaccompanied singing.
If this sounds like the kind of choir you might be interested in joining then do get in touch using the Contact Us tab. Coming along for an evening practice to find out what we’re like is an entirely acceptable proposition.
